37 Million Abortions And The Tragedy Goes On
January 21, 1998
CHESAPEAKE, VA - Christian Coalition Executive Director Randy Tate today strongly
condemned the legacy of Roe vs. Wade the decision handed down by the Supreme Court 25
years ago. He promised to continue the fight to restore full legal protection to unborn human
life.
"The 25-year legacy of Roe vs. Wade is 37 million abortions - an annihilation
greater in size than the entire population of California," Tate said. "That legacy is not
cause for celebration, but for sadness. It's time for all Americans, both pro-life and pro-
choice, to soberly consider the far-reaching and devastating consequences Roe has had on
the American culture. I urge abortion advocates to take a moment to reflect and ask
themselves, 'Has 25 years of abortion-on-demand been good for America?' At the same
time, the pro-life community must make an unwavering commitment to stand for the
weakest among us."
The good news is that the tide of public opinion has turned and more Americans are
supporting the right to life. According to an Associated Press poll released this week, most
Americans object to the 1973 ruling. The New York Times reported last week that 79 percent of
Americans believe partial-birth abortion should be forbidden. In fact, the partial-birth abortion
debate has focused attention on the depraved moral condition of the pro-abortion lobby and their
extremist view that the infanticide of partial-birth abortion should continue. Most Americans are
repulsed by the image of pulling a baby four-fifths of the way out of the birth canal, and then
puncturing the child's head to suck out it's brains.
"Christian Coalition is committed to the view of our Founding Fathers that a
creator-endowed right to life is paramount among our basic rights, and we will continue
our long-term struggle with modern liberals who seek to justify their moral relativism with
erroneous claims of 14th Amendment 'liberty' protections," Tate said.
Christian Coalition also has called on people of faith across America to recognize
Sanctity of Life Sunday - January 25, 1998 - and commit to a day of prayer and fasting.
Christian Coalition, a grassroots organization with approximately 1.9 million members
and supporters, is committed to restoring the right to life of the unborn and extending to them the
full protection of the law.
